Gabriele Bella (1730 – 1799) Biography: Venetian vedutist (Italian for ‘view’ – large scale paintings of a cityscape) painter. Bella was a pupil of Giovanni Antonio Canal/Canaletto- his work was almost included in the National Gallery’s 2011 exhibition ‘Venice:Canaletto and his rivals’ although as Bella painted Venice for Venetians rather than for foreigners, it was eventually decided that it wouldn’t fit.
